SunWind kits are made with parts from the following major
suppliers.
Technology Teaching Systems
- motors, pulley-wheels, gears, 4 mm (5/32") dowel, wood
TTS is a U.K. company with branches in Canada
and the United States. Suppliers of hands-on elementary mechanical technology
tools and supplies. Wonderful saws, great drills, wood, bench-hooks, jointers...designed
for children to use in making great inventions. Supply your children with
tools and materials! Let them build! 'Nuff said.
Ever
Step Development - solar panels
Ever Step Development in Hong Kong supplies
the smaller solar panels, and is a supplier of a large amount of the world's
solar toys and gizmos. Their usual minimum order quantity is $10,000 US.
Richco,
Inc. - motor mounting clips
Richco specializes in quality plastic products,
many of them for the electrical industry. Their Quick Clip #KKU-12-RT
(meant
for holding cable) is commonly used by educational suppliers as a hobby
motor mounting clip. It has a one-time-use sticky-back and conveniently
holds small electrical motors in almost any place. Electrical supply stores,
if they don't have them, can get them.
Bear Woods Supply
Co. Ltd - wooden disks
Bear Woods supplies wood parts for woodworkers
and talented craftspeople. Their wooden disk, #WN-150, is a 1-1/2"
diameter smooth wooden disk 1/8" thick. SunWind makes wooden wheels
by drilling a 5/32" hole through the center of these disks.
Lee's Aquarium &
Pet Products - vinyl tubing [for inline shaft
retainers]
"- a U.S. manufacture of pet products. This site
provides product information for consumers, retailers, distributors, and
exporters. Lee's does not sell products online." Still, this is the
best-fit brand of airline tubing I've found for fitting snugly onto TTS'
4 mm wooden dowel [DOWEL4], and is available locally from retail Pet Supply
Stores.
Acklands-Grainger
- screw eyes
This industrial supply company sells us screw
eyes. The ones used in the kits are Androck #5402. The dowel and
tubing work well with this size.
Hi-Tech Seals
- tires
This industrial seal company sells us o-rings in
bulk, and we call them "tires". The different sizes that we use to match
TTS' pulley/wheels are shown below.
