THE CUBAN CHILD

By Sandy Macintyre

I am the Cuban child
What shall I become tomorrow * * *
granddaughter of Che *
offspring of Maceo *
The whole world awaits my coming
with silent anticipation

If I survive the torments of today
murderous embargo *
wave after wave of tourist invasion *
What shall I become tomorrow * * *

it all hangs in the balance
for what I become
The world of tomorrow will be eventually

Look deep into my eyes
feel my passion for life
What shall I become tomorrow * * *
you hold the keys to my destiny
you determine whether I shall succeed or fail
give me, I beg you, a world where
I can walk tall and proud
Allow me as is your duty unto me,
to love myself,
my people,
and to,
build and maintain the dream
of a strong and free

CUBAN NATION
