Mark is a world-class artist/creative specialist in the true sense of the words. He was born in Cambridge, England, and lived between Suffolk and London until he was seven years old. In 1966 he migrated to the Caribbean island of Trinidad, where he was educated. Mark remembers having a keen interest in creative expression from an early age, and his ambition at age twenty-one was to contribute to the society in which he was developing. After completing training as a graphic artist he decided to embark on an apprenticeship programme with the late Ken Morris, the artistic pioneer of hand made copper art.
Since completing his apprenticeship, Mark has been, a practicing, professional in many areas of creative expression, particularly as an artisan of hand-fashioned copperwork. His clientele is varied, and his professional services are truly diverse. He receives commissions from private individuals, corporations and institutes, and also conducts workshops for both young people, and mature adults. Mark is multi-talented, and multi-skilled. He has a wealth of experience using a variety of creative media and techniques. He has worked on theatre productions, in Carnival mas camps and community projects in Trinidad and Tobago, New York and London.
Mark can be identified as a healer by means of his commitment to contributing to the holistic well-being of individuals through creative expression. He has successfully worked with disadvantaged and socially excluded young people and his hope for the future is to reach more young people who, for whatever reason, feel ostracized. His programmes have often been customized to suit individual client needs, covering issues around self-esteem, respect, identity, and active citizenship.
Destiny would seem to have specially chosen Mark to be part of the AHANAIE artists collective. The group philosophy and mission goals were very appealing to him and seemed to fit exactly with what he tries to represent in his more personal artistic creations. Some of his art can be seen adorning the web site. Mark is appreciative of the abundant blessings that life has bestowed on him and looks forward to turning out many more artistic illuminations. Mark is also being encouraged by his brother Sandy, at some future point in time, to share his talent on the clarinet within the AHANAIE circle.
