Marcus is the undisputed king of the congas among the core group of percussionists within AHANAIE. Native to Toronto, Canada Marcus first took up drumming in the early seventies. His first instruments were, however, the violin and cello, which he learned at the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and the University Settlement School of Music from 1961 - 1968.

Marcus has had the privilege to gain direction in playing congas from many of the great percussionists of this era including Larry Armando Borg, Ramon Lopez, Memo Acevedo, Frankie Malabe, Louis Romero, Joel Driggs and Changuito (Los Van Van). Over time, he has become well schooled in Afro Cuban rhythms working with renowned musicians like Jesus Alfonso (Muniquitos), Michael Spiro, Pancho Quinto, Anga and Marquito of the Afro Cuban All stars to mention but a few. He has also had the honour to play for dance classes and participate in workshops with the great Mbemba Bangoura of the Ballets Africain De Guinea.

Marcus's list of accomplishments is extensive and diverse. He has played for Toronto Dance Theatre, the National Ballet School, Ontario Ballet Theatre, Esmerelda Enrique Flamenco, Ballet Creole, Arabesque Belly Dance and Alvin Ailey master classes. He has done concerts with Tito Puente, Dave Valentin, Nestor Torres and Cachao. Marcus's considerable talents have been featured over the last twenty years in groups like Ritmo Caliente, Banda Brava, Jane Bunnet, Cimaron, Abolengo, Jesse Cook, Carlos Morgan, Diana Braithewaite Blues, Samba Squad, Jump Music Collective Band, Minutes from Downtown and Sabor Urbano. In 1996 he formed a six piece Salsa and Latin Jazz group called Vibrason that had a devoted following and was the featured act at every major night club and Latin festival around Toronto until the group broke up in 2001.

Marcus has played congas on several recordings like Jazz Cartel, Peter Mathers, Abolengo, Damnait Doyle, Da and Elaine Jones, Suzan de Busac and Ado. He has also appeared in a few films like 'Latin Nights' and 'Car 54 Where Are You'. He is one of the driving forces within AHANAIE, having been with the group from its inception. Marcus is available for private individual or group lessons and workshops.
