RIVO is a network of therapists and community workers concerned with the well-being of survivors of torture and other forms of organised political violence. We offer individual follow-up of survivors free of charge via our therapists and caseworkers, massage therapy on the recommendation of the principal caseworker, and referrals to a variety of psychosocial supports (language classes, community-building activities, ...) via our member organisations.
We also offer training on working with survivors to organisations requesting such. The nature of the training is determined by the need expressed by the organisation in question. For information please contact our office (514-282-0661; rivo@web.ca)
We maintain working relationships with other similar organisations in Canada and elsewhere, and hold membership in a number of umbrella organisations where issues related to torture and refugees / asylum seekers can be explored (e.g. Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiés et immigrantes, Canadian Council for Refugees, International Rehabilitation Council for Victims of Torture - during the 3-year terms, Dec '06 - Dec '09, and Dec '09 - June '12, RIVO's coordinator, John Docherty, was the Canadian representative to the governing council of IRCT).
RIVO is a registered Canadian
charity (# 89098 0584 RR 0001). Donations to our work are welcome.
