NO WAR ON IRAQ

Things YOU Can Do

Put a light in your window. One simple way to show your continued commitment to this vision is to put a light in your window. It could be a Christmas string or candle, a light bulb, or a lantern.

Place a ''No War on Iraq'' window sign in the window of your home, car and workplace.

Wear a pale blue “peace” ribbon, on your person or on your property (around trees, on front porches and in windows). Blue was chosen as the colour for the ribbons because it is identified as the colour worn by peace-keepers.

Join a Vigil for Peace: Each Wednesday evening since October 25, 2001 the North Bay Peace Alliance has gathered from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for a weekly peace vigil in front of Bob Wood's office at 160 McIntyre St. W., North Bay.

Email or Call Members of Parliament to express your support for Canada's decision to not join the U.S. in their illegal invasion and attacks on Iraq. Write a letter to the editor of the Nugget or other local paper saying why you oppose the war on Iraq. Possible points to make include: the US Administration has not presented an adequate justification for going to war; Iraq does not pose a clear and present danger to the US; and an invasion of Iraq would violate international law.Send your letters to the Editor at: North Bay Nugget, 259 Worthington St. West, North Bay ON, P1B 3B5, or to the Editorial Email: news@nugget.ca

Email friends and family and ask them to join you in opposing the war. Send this list of things you can do to stop the war to a friend along with a copy of Global Exchange's Top Ten Reasons Why the US Should Not Invade Iraq, available online at www.globalexchange.org.

Educate yourself about Iraq and its history, the US accusations against Saddam Hussein, and the environmental and human consequences of this war, so you can discuss the issue with friends, family, and even strangers. Websites that have good information include www.EnvirosAgainstWar.org, www.zmag.org, www.thenation.com, www.commondreams.org, ww.alternet.org, www.pacificnews.org and www.endthewar.org.

Join the international mobilization to stop the war on Iraq by organizing an anti-war event (a rally, march, vigil, teach-in, or other action).

Make a banner and hang it in a prominent public place. Even if the banner is taken down within a few hours, people will see it while it's up, and they will realize that the opposition to this war is growing. It's easy to make a banner: just use paint or markers on a white sheet.
