Election Questionnaire 2005


The North Shore Heritage Preservation Society asked candidates in the November 2005 local elections for their views on heritage issues. The views of the elected representatives are published below, followed by the full questionnaire responses.

The survey was conducted by board representatives from the three districts: Joanne Schemmann (District of North Vancouver), Peter Miller (District of West Vancouver), and David Pike and Gillian Welsh (City of North Vancouver).

 

City of North Vancouver: Mayor and Council

1. What is your position on the value of heritage buildings in North Vancouver?

2. What might you do to help better preserve heritage buildings in North Vancouver?

3. Would you support increased funding for heritage preservation, for example through grant, tax or other incentive programs?

4. What is your position on preserving historic school buildings in North Vancouver, such as Ridgeway Elementary and Queen Mary Community?

 

City of North Vancouver: School Board

1. What is your position on the value of heritage buildings in North Vancouver?

2. What is your position on preserving historic school buildings in North Vancouver, such as Ridgeway Elementary, Queen Mary Elementary and Lonsdale Elementary?

3. Specifically, would you support efforts to preserve Ridgeway Elementary, a "primary" building on the City of North Vancouver's Heritage Register, over replacement in the provincial seismic upgrading program?
