Programs
Introduction
Friends of the
Don East has had a long history of developing programs to enhance the
natural environment. We currently host plantings
and interpretive walks in the local ravines.
We are also actively involved in restoring the Taylor-Massey Creek
Watershed. FODE initiated and developed the Taylor
Massey Project - a watershed wide vision for restoration of this
degraded tributary of the Don River.
In the past FODE
has also been active in local community projects such as Another Yard for the Don and Trees Count. These projects are no
longer active but we are keeping a record of them in our past programs
archive.
| Cleanups and Plantings |
|
FODE launches spring activities each year with a cleanup at
Todmorden Mills, in partnership with the Todmorden Mills Wildflower
Preserve, and supports local stewardship committees working in Taylor
Massey Creek. Every year we have clean-ups and plantings.
Please see the Calendar of Events
for a listing of activities scheduled for this year or, if you know of
a local reach that needs some help, please contact us and we'll help if
we can.

Take a Hike
|
|

|
FODE encourages residents to get out and walk their local
ravines and valley corridors for their health and enjoyment.
In the meantime, please take a look at the Calendar for upcoming walks.

The Taylor Massey Project
|
|
This project focuses on Taylor Massey Creek, a major
tributary to the Don River, and includes:
- Extensive
background information on the Creek
- 15 customized
location maps, most in a series of Reach Fact Sheets so people can read
about their section of the watercourse
- 54 aerial photos
showing every inch of the watercourse, and
- A call for the
creation of the Taylor Massey Trail, with 11 additional aerial photos
of the Warden Hydro Corridor, in which part of the trail should be
located.
